School Shoes for local children - Tesco Community School Shoes for local children - Tesco Community Grants Scheme 👞

Earlier this year we were awarded £500 from the blue tokens scheme based in Tesco Linlithgow and Bo'ness stores. This award has helped ensure we were able to cope with the increasing demand for our service over the summer, ensuring the children were able to return to school in August this year, feeling good, fitting in with their peers, wearing brand new shoes.

Every award we receive makes such a real difference in our local community, here's what our Referrers told us:

"In one instance a family were financially struggling to buy school uniform and shoes. I made a referral and the child was clothed within days. The parent cried with relief that their son wouldn't get 'bullied' now. The child was so overwhelmed with his new black batman school shoes. He took his old ones off and put them on immediately. This child has came in every day since saying 'I love my shoes thank you'. It makes it all worthwhile knowing that child feels comfortable and the family less stressed and anxious."

"Many of our children and families experience financial stress and therefore their mental health suffer when it comes to the time of year to provide for their children's school uniforms. Unfortunately those that work are not entitled to the school clothing grant although still have financial difficulties. These children have now been coming in, in full uniform, warm/dry shoes and coats."

"We have a child that struggles with attendance and engagement. With her new school uniform, she was excited to come back after the summer and engagement and attendance has drastically increased. I believe is this is due to seeing she is like every other child and feels included."

Thank you to every customer who voted for us and the amazing staff at the stores who supported our bid. 🥰

Feeding our Local Children - Tesco Community Grant Feeding our Local Children - Tesco Community Grants Scheme 🍞🍎🥕

Earlier this year we were awarded £1,000 through the blue tokens scheme based in Tesco Bathgate, East Calder and Broxburn (Main Street) stores. This award helped provide food vouchers to 20 vulnerable families in West Lothian to help relieve food insecurity when it was most needed. Thanks to Gemma (Community Champion) from Tesco Bathgate for presenting the big cheque to Collette (our Project Manager).

Every award we receive makes such a real difference in our local community, here's what our Referrers told us:

School told us "These vouchers helped us to support families towards the end of a long month and we know and see how hard it is for families just now. This gives a little bit of joy at a difficult time, and I know they appreciate being able to spend the food voucher on items their family need/like/prefer."

Community Worker said "We gave the supermarket vouchers to a teenage boy who is now living with his sister as mum is in hospital long term. The vouchers are such a great help to this household at this time due to the cost of feeding another person."

Charity Worker stated "The women in our safe accommodation share the stress and anxiety caused by the increased cost of living alongside managing their own individual struggles of domestic abuse. Provision of these vouchers provided a visible sigh of relief from all who received them, knowing they had a little extra to get items of foods etc they enjoy for themselves and their children."

Thank you to every customer who voted for us and the amazing staff at the stores who supported our bid. 🥰❤

⚽️ Footy boots - The Inclusion Crew! ⚽️ E ⚽️ Footy boots - The Inclusion Crew! ⚽️

Earlier this year we had an appeal for second-hand football boots and the public really got behind this initiative and donated lots!
Special thanks to Murieston United Football Club and to West Lothian Football Academy for hosting one of our red collection bins and reaching out to their players and families for donations. Not forgetting staff and customers are Tesco Linlithgow who ran an appeal too.

Our hard working volunteers, scrubbed, and tidied up the boots. We were able to re-distribute them to two very worthy projects. One of which was, Deans PS football festival.

We recently received a number of thank you cards in the post from the pupils and when we read them there wasn't a dry eye in the house! Here is a snippet of what was said...

'Thanks for the boots! They have helped a a lot! We managed to help people get full kits! People who were Kit-less are now Kit-full!' 😭🥰

"I'm part of the football team and very grateful because I don't have football equipment."😭🥰

"I love my football boots, pads, socks and kit bag. I have been picked for the team too!" 😭🥰

Craigshill Winter Project 2022 🧤🧣🧦 The p Craigshill Winter Project 2022 🧤🧣🧦

The project was funded by Craigshill Community Choices fund, and allowed us to support the community during a time when rising energy bills and the cost of living was really biting hard. We provided 175 packs (between November 2022-Spring 2023) to young people allowing them to stay warm whilst at home and when out and about. Packs included an oodie/fleece/zipper, cosy socks, warm jacket, wellies, and hat/gloves/scarf.

Referrals were made through Schools, Housing Associations, Youth Action Project, Women's Aid and Health Visitors working with families in Craigshill. Here are a few feedback comments that help demonstrated the impact of this project:

"Having seen the recent struggles that parents are having due to cost-of-living crisis, this project came at the right time and fulfilled all needs. Having the most basic items enabled the parents to feel valued knowing that their child is safe, warm and happy. It also relieved some stress and anxieties from the parents as it kept their child warm during the cold spells, without having an another expense of heating bills."

"Helped one young boy to socialise with his friends and play outside. It also imroved his confidence as he felt good in himself and he was not embarrassed as he had very little winter clothing. The smile on his face was priceless."

"The parent was so thankful about receiving your pack that she was crying as she felt a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Not being able to provide clothing for her child was causing her so much stress."

"Great service that helped many families in 2022 in this area who may have gone without."

"I just want to thank you immensely, what an absolute lifeline you have provided."

Thank you to Paul and team at Burn It Fitness for choosing us as their local charity to support again this year. For the last 8 years Burn It Fitness hold a super burn it event, a 150-minute workout which is split into a half trail and half circuits course, this event costs £10 to enter. The money raised goes to a local charity and we have been very fortunate that the last few years the team have chosen us as the recipient. 🥰

An amazing 100+ entrants signed up, managed raised a huge amount and were able to purchase lots of PE kit including, shorts, and 60 t-shirts, 65 water bottles and an assortment of school bags. All of which was desperately needed at the time of drop off, most of this has now been distributed to children across West Lothian for starting back at school at the beginning of August. 🥰

We provided a whopping 960 uniform packs for young We provided a whopping 960 uniform packs for young people returning to school this month, ensuring each child could go to school with their head held high and ready to take on the new school year! Many of their families are facing daily struggles and our service provided a vital support.

We couldn't have managed to do this mammoth task without the generosity and kindness of every single person and organisation who supported us over the summer period, including:
💛A whopping 242 uniform packs were donated by sponsors. It was clear that each uniform pack was put together with a great deal of thought.
💛Everyone who donated brand new uniform, jackets, water bottles, school bags, PE kit, footwear and stationery etc. These donations are vital too and it allows us to provide packs needed, particular at the later end of the summer holidays, when we need to have stock here to provide a large number of uniform packs at very short notice.
💛All those who made generous monetary donations on-line, large and small, this allows us to buy the stock we need, again so so important.
💛Organisations and Funders who held events, donated stock or made a donation to support our campaign. A-Maz-Ing!
💛Everyone who donated excellent quality second-hand donations. We top up our uniform packs with the excellent quality items that look like new and reduce landfill.
💛Those who like and share our FB/Insta/Twitter/LinkedIn posts.
💛All those who help by having one of our red collection bins in the community.
💛Abbie, Roz, Janine, and Collette in the office and our valuable Volunteers, including the Board of Trustees, who all work tirelessly behind the scenes.
A big THANK YOU to you all, we couldn’t do it with each and every one of you!🥰
The demand for our service continues all year round so please continue to support us and watch our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn pages for updates.❤
